Summary
- India's first flex-fuel motorcycles can run on up to 85% ethanol.
- New bikes launch ahead of World Environment Day celebrations.
- Ethanol fuel is projected to be significantly cheaper than petrol.

India has introduced its first flex-fuel motorcycles, the Splendor and HF Deluxe, which can operate on petrol blended with up to 85% ethanol (E85). The HF Deluxe Flex Fuel is priced at ₹72,792 and the Splendor Flex Fuel at ₹82,710 (ex-showroom Delhi).
These motorcycles are set to be available in Delhi and select regions of Maharashtra starting July 2026. The launch, occurring just before World Environment Day, was attended by Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri, emphasizing India's commitment to alternative fuels.
Minister Gadkari highlighted that this initiative supports reducing crude oil imports, promotes ethanol usage, empowers farmers, and aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Minister Puri noted that E85 fuel will be considerably cheaper than regular fuel, potentially generating significant ethanol demand and transforming farmers into 'urjadaata' (energy providers).
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is also proposing amendments to vehicle emission rules to facilitate the wider adoption of flex-fuel and pure biofuel vehicles across all categories.
