India Boosts Fuel Security Amid West Asia Tensions

Enforcement against hoarding has intensified, with numerous raids and show-cause notices issued to distributors, leading to the suspension of some. Commercial LPG allocation is capped at 70% of pre-crisis levels to prioritize domestic needs and essential services like hospitals. The government is also encouraging a shift towards alternative fuels like piped natural gas (PNG), which has seen a significant increase in new connections.
Supplies to industrial sectors, including fertilizer plants, are being ramped up. To mitigate the impact of rising global crude prices, excise duties on petrol and diesel have been reduced by ₹10 per litre. Maritime operations continue to be monitored closely, with vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz safely. Indian missions are providing 24x7 support to nationals in the region, facilitating repatriation and assisting with travel and visa needs.
