The Union Budget 2026-27 has prioritized adventure tourism, unveiling a comprehensive strategy to establish new hiking, trekking, coastal, and wildlife trails throughout India. The Finance Minister emphasized the nation's potential for world-class ecological adventure experiences, aiming to capitalize on this rapidly expanding sector.
Development will focus on ecologically sustainable mountain trails in high-altitude areas such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. Additionally, structured hiking experiences are planned for the Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats, enhancing accessibility and safety.
Coastal regions will see the introduction of 'Turtle Trails' in Odisha, Karnataka, and Kerala, promoting wildlife conservation and ecological heritage. Furthermore, bird-watching circuits are proposed for the Pulicat Lake region, a vital wetland ecosystem spanning Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
