India's ₹50,000 Cr Grid Boost to Unleash Green Power
11 Aug
Summary
- India plans ₹50,000 crore to strengthen its power grid infrastructure.
- Phase three of the green energy corridor aims to reduce renewables curtailment.
- New transmission capacity will support states with high renewable energy generation.

India is set to approve a significant ₹50,000 crore investment to upgrade its power grid. This initiative, the third phase of the green energy corridor, is designed to tackle the growing challenge of renewable energy curtailment. The plan focuses on enhancing intra-state transmission infrastructure in states rich in solar and wind power.
This crucial development aims to ensure that the rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity is matched by adequate transmission capabilities. By strengthening substations and transmission lines, the project seeks to reduce instances where green power generation is curtailed due to grid constraints.
The project has received preliminary approval from the finance ministry's expenditure finance committee and is expected to be structured as a public-private partnership. This aims to attract private investment and improve accountability in project execution.
The first two phases of the green energy corridor involved investments of approximately ₹10,000 crore and ₹12,000 crore, respectively. This new phase is projected to support the evacuation of around 135GW of renewable energy, a vital step towards achieving India's 2030 clean energy targets.
