22 Oct
Summary
- Indian equities dropped for the third day due to rising oil prices.
- Nifty fell 0.54% and Sensex dropped 0.62% amid market pressure.
- Federal Bank and Indian Hotels were recommended by an analyst.

Indian stock markets extended their decline for a third straight session on October 21, 2026. Global tensions in the Middle East were a primary driver, pushing oil prices to $112 per barrel and intensifying inflation worries for India, the world's third-largest crude oil consumer.
The benchmark Nifty 50 index registered a decrease of 0.54%, closing at 22,687.65, while the Sensex fell by 0.62% to 73,249.39. Broader market indices, including small-cap and mid-cap segments, also faced downward pressure, declining by 1.1% and 0.9% respectively.
Market analyst Chandan Taparia identified Federal Bank and Indian Hotels Company as potential investment opportunities. He set a target price of ₹368 for Federal Bank with a stop loss of ₹336, and a target of ₹830 for Indian Hotels, with a stop loss at ₹760.
Taparia's analysis of Nifty options data indicated a trading range between 22,400 and 23,200, with immediate bounds at 22,500 and 23,000. He noted a pattern of Call writing at 23,300 and 23,150 strikes, and Put writing at 22,650 and 22,600 strikes.
For the Nifty 50, Taparia observed indecision, with the index forming a Doji-like candle. He suggested that a hold below 22,700 could lead to further weakness towards 22,550 and 22,400, while resistance is expected at 22,850 and 22,950.
Similarly, the Bank Nifty experienced volatility, closing with a negative bias. Taparia indicated that levels below 55,000 could push the index towards 54,500 and 54,250, with resistance anticipated at 55,250 and 55,500.
