Indian Railways Spends Rs 1.14 Lakh Crore by July

As of July 2026, Indian Railways has spent over Rs 1.14 lakh crore, representing 39% of its allocated budget for the 2026-27 financial year. This expenditure was reported to the Lok Sabha by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The deployment of Kavach Version 4.0, an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system, has reached 2,633 route kilometers. This includes 1,423 km on the Delhi-Mumbai corridor and 1,210 km on the Delhi-Howrah corridor. Plans are underway for extensive implementation across the Indian Railways network.
Significant progress has also been made in broader infrastructure development. A total of 514 railway infrastructure projects, spanning approximately 40,000 km, have been sanctioned across the country at an estimated cost of Rs 8.31 lakh crore. To support operational efficiency, around six lakh railway employees receive annual training.
