Indian Railways Enhances Pass Holder Perks
30 Oct
Summary
- Pass holders can now travel in higher classes on premium trains.
- This applies to Privilege, Post Retirement, and Widow Passes.
- Fare difference payment is required for upgraded travel.
Indian Railways has enhanced travel benefits for its pass holders, allowing them to travel in a higher class on premium trains. This updated policy now explicitly permits holders of Privilege Passes, Post Retirement Complimentary Passes, and Widow Passes to upgrade their class of travel. This change aims to resolve prior ambiguities within the Railway Servants (Pass) Rules, 1986.
To avail this upgrade on trains like Rajdhani, Duronto, and Shatabdi Express, pass holders must pay the applicable fare difference. The Railway Board has mandated that all previous instructions on travel entitlements under passes are superseded by this new order. Consequently, the Centre for Railway Information Systems is updating the Passenger Reservation System and e-Pass module.
