22 Oct
Summary
- Indian investment in overseas property grew 64% to $528.7 million in FY26.
- Apartments and condos are the most desired overseas properties.
- Business owners, traders, and industrialists lead overseas property interest.

Indian residents are increasingly investing in overseas property, with funds sent for this purpose rising 64% year-on-year to $528.7 million in the financial year 2025-26. This significant increase occurred despite a marginal decrease in overall Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) outflows.
The report highlights that overseas real estate now constitutes 13% of surveyed respondents' wealth, a substantial rise from 5% ten years ago. This growing interest is fueled by expectations of rental earnings and rising property values, with apartments and condominiums being the most popular choices.
Business owners, traders, and industrialists form the largest segment of interested buyers at 53%, followed by corporate executives and working professionals at 30%. A significant 85% of respondents plan to invest between $250,000 and $1 million in foreign real estate.
Popular destinations include the UAE, Greece, Thailand, and the United States, with buyers citing reasons such as residency options, portfolio diversification, and lifestyle improvements. Compliance with RBI's LRS, FEMA, and relevant tax rules is crucial for these international property investments.
