Indian Equities Eye New Peaks on Robust Growth
11 Aug
Summary
- Indian equities may reach new highs within a year.
- Strong earnings growth and a stable rupee underpin market optimism.
- Elevated valuations necessitate a methodical stock selection approach.

Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund holds an optimistic view for Indian equities, predicting a surge to new highs over the coming year. This positive outlook is primarily supported by strong earnings growth and a stable currency, which are anticipated to fuel market gains. The fund house acknowledges that current valuations are elevated, suggesting that market advancements will likely be more measured compared to previous rallies.
Chief Investment Officer for Equities, Harish Krishnan, highlighted three core factors bolstering this outlook: healthy nominal GDP growth, reduced currency-related headwinds, and a revival in capital expenditure. The profit pool of the top 1,000 listed companies has seen an 18% year-over-year expansion over the past 21 months, while overall market capitalization has remained relatively flat, indicating potential for further upside.
Krishnan also pointed out that India's 3.04% share of global market capitalization remains attractive. An analysis comparing the Nifty 500 index in gold terms suggests that equities have become a more compelling investment relative to the precious metal, further supporting the positive sentiment towards the Indian stock market.
