Indian Enterprises Rapidly Adopt Generative AI, Shift from Pilots to Production

According to a recent EY-CII report, the Indian enterprise AI landscape has reached an inflection point as of November 2025. The report, titled 'Is India ready for Agentic AI? The AIdea of India: Outlook 2026', reveals that 47% of Indian enterprises now have multiple Generative AI (GenAI) use cases live, while 23% are in the pilot stage. This marks a decisive shift from experimentation to embedding AI into core business workflows to deliver measurable results.
The report also highlights strong confidence among Indian business leaders, with 76% believing that GenAI will have a significant business impact, and 63% feeling ready to leverage it effectively. However, despite this optimism, AI and ML investments remain modest, with over 95% of organizations allocating less than 20% of their IT budgets to these technologies.
Mahesh Makhija, Partner and Technology Consulting Leader at EY India, emphasizes that the focus must now shift from building pilots to designing processes where humans and AI agents collaborate seamlessly. He adds that enterprises prioritizing data readiness, model assurance, and Responsible AI will shape the competitive advantage of the decade.
