27 Nov, 2025
Summary
- Space industry asks government to triple sector budget
- Proposes national satellite mission for remote connectivity
- Seeks budget allocation increase to 0.12% of GDP

The Indian space sector is calling for a significant budget increase, requesting it be tripled to at least 0.12% of GDP. This expansion is deemed essential to support secure communications, navigation, climate systems, and disaster resilience.
The Satcom Industry Association of India (SIA-India) has submitted its pre-budget expectations, highlighting the need for greater public investment. They propose a National Satellite Connectivity Mission, funded by the Universal Service Obligation Fund, to enhance digital access in underserved and disaster-prone areas.
Further recommendations include frameworks for Foreign Direct Investment, support for joint ventures, and customs exemptions for essential hardware. SIA-India also suggests a tailored Hybrid Production-Linked Incentive scheme to boost long-cycle space manufacturing and attract global partners.
