22 Mar
Summary
- India mandates CGD companies to prioritize PNG for commercial establishments.
- Government accelerates approvals for gas infrastructure projects.
- Additional 20% commercial LPG allocation is provided to states.

Amidst ongoing conflict in West Asia impacting global energy flows, India has taken steps to ensure stable fuel supplies and prioritize piped natural gas (PNG) for commercial establishments. City gas distribution (CGD) entities have been advised to prioritize PNG connections for businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and canteens. This initiative addresses concerns regarding the availability of commercial LPG.
The government is also actively facilitating gas infrastructure development by requesting ministries and state governments to expedite approvals for CGD projects. Furthermore, government offices and establishments are encouraged to transition to PNG where available. To support commercial users, an additional 20% allocation of commercial LPG has been granted to states, with priority given to sectors like restaurants and food processing.
In parallel, the government is intensifying monitoring to prevent hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders, with numerous raids conducted and cylinders seized in various states. Refineries are operating at high capacity with sufficient crude and fuel inventories, ensuring no shortages at retail outlets. Citizens are advised against panic buying.
