Summary
- Indian markets closed sharply higher Wednesday, investors ignored Iranian missile attack.
- Nifty IT index surged 2.3%, extending rally amid attractive valuations and cash flow.
- Industrial production data showed strong 7.3% year-on-year growth in June.

Indian equity markets concluded Wednesday's trading session with substantial gains, as investors chose to focus on domestic economic strengths despite a ballistic missile attack on US forces in West Asia.
The Nifty 50 rose 1.10% to close at 24,250.20, while the Sensex advanced 1.16% to settle at 77,654.60. India VIX, a measure of volatility, saw a decrease of 4.4%.
The Nifty IT index was a significant driver of the market's upward movement, surging by 2.3%. This rally, extending for a fourth consecutive session, has boosted the index by approximately 8% over three days and over 17% for the month. This outperformance occurred even as some international semiconductor and AI hardware stocks faced pressure.
Support for the market also came from positive industrial production data, which revealed a 7.3% year-on-year growth for June, an increase from May's 5%. Manufacturing output expanded by 7.8%, and electricity generation rose by 10.6%.
Broader market indices, including the Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100, also posted gains, with advances outnumbering declines in a favorable market breadth.
Individually, Kaynes Technology surged over 13% following its expansion plans in the semiconductor supply chain. Phoenix Mills reported strong profit and revenue growth. Adani Ports saw its stock dip despite reporting increased profits and revenue, attributed to profit-booking by investors.
Meanwhile, crude oil prices increased by over 3% following the geopolitical event. The Indian Rupee, however, remained stable against the dollar, supported by foreign institutional investor flows and the strength of the equity market.
Attention now shifts to the US Federal Reserve's upcoming policy decision, with expectations of interest rates remaining unchanged. Commentary on inflation and future rate trajectories will be closely monitored. Domestically, upcoming earnings reports from major companies like Bajaj Finance and Mahindra & Mahindra are anticipated to influence market direction.
