India IPO Market Cools: Two New Listings Amidst Uncertainty
3 Jun
Summary
- India's primary market activity has slowed due to global factors.
- CMR Green Technologies IPO shows a promising grey market premium.
- Hexagon Nutrition IPO's grey market premium remains flat.

India's primary market has experienced a slowdown in recent weeks, influenced by heightened geopolitical tensions, volatile crude oil prices, and foreign fund outflows. This has led several companies to delay their public offerings, although the SME IPO segment continues to show activity.
Investor interest is set to return with the mainboard IPOs of CMR Green Technologies and Hexagon Nutrition. CMR Green Technologies, specializing in aluminum and zinc alloys, has a grey market premium (GMP) of ₹52.5, suggesting a potential listing price of ₹244.5, a 27.34% increase from its IPO price of ₹192.
In contrast, Hexagon Nutrition, a nutrition products company, has a GMP of ₹0, with its shares trading at the issue price of ₹45. Both IPOs consist solely of an offer for sale (OFS), meaning neither company will raise funds directly from these issuances.
Experts express caution about the IPO market's future, noting that many recent listings are trading below their initial prices. Factors like geopolitical disruptions, foreign institutional investor outflows, and pressure on the rupee have impacted risk appetite. For the upcoming fiscal year, a focus on fundamentally strong companies with reasonable valuations trading on the secondary market is advised over new listings.
