Summary
- Indian businesses are urged to utilize free trade agreements for global expansion.

- India has finalized eight free trade pacts in the last five years.
Indian businesses are strongly advised to capitalize on existing free trade agreements (FTAs) and export promotion initiatives to enhance their global reach and boost international shipments. This strategic focus comes as India's merchandise exports demonstrated a remarkable 23% year-on-year increase in September 2026, reaching USD 44.4 billion. Cumulative exports for April-September 2026 also showed robust growth, rising by 13.84% to an estimated USD 476.20 billion.
Services exports experienced a slight dip of 0.87% in September 2026 but have seen cumulative growth reaching USD 216.31 billion for April-September 2026. These positive export trends are supported by India's efforts in forging international partnerships. Notably, India has successfully finalized eight FTAs over the last five years, with agreements already in place with Mauritius, the UAE, Oman, Australia, the EFTA bloc, and the UK. A trade pact with New Zealand is set to commence on October 20, 2026, and a significant deal with the 27-nation European Union is planned for December 2026.
