India's electric vehicle retail sales achieved a remarkable 24.6% year-on-year growth in the fiscal year 2026, reaching a total of approximately 24.52 lakh units. This expansion was driven by strong double-digit growth across all vehicle categories, marking a significant milestone for the nation's electric mobility sector.
The electric passenger vehicle segment witnessed an exceptional surge of 83.63%, with sales reaching 1,99,923 units in FY26, a substantial increase from the previous fiscal year. Tata Motors led this category, followed by JSW MG Motor India and Mahindra & Mahindra.
In the electric two-wheeler market, sales grew by 21.81% to 14,01,818 units in FY26. TVS Motor Company held the top position in this segment, with Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy also securing significant market shares. The electric three-wheeler category also expanded by 18.97%, and electric commercial vehicles saw a remarkable 120.57% increase in sales.
