15 Apr
Summary
- India ensured 100% piped natural gas and LPG supply to domestic consumers.
- Commercial LPG supplies were restored to 70% by adjusting booking intervals.
- Strict monitoring and penalties curbed market malpractices like hoarding.

Amidst energy disruptions from the West Asia crisis, India has successfully ensured a 100% supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for domestic consumers by prioritizing their requirements.
Domestic refineries boosted LPG production while booking intervals were adjusted to 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural regions to manage demand. These measures facilitated the restoration of 70% of commercial LPG supplies, with 134,000 tonnes sold since March 14.
Critical sectors, including hospitals, educational institutions, and industries like pharmaceuticals and agriculture, received prioritized fuel. The government also doubled the availability of 5kg cylinders and promoted alternate fuels, with extensive awareness camps organized.
To ensure feedstock availability for industrial and petrochemical sectors, a joint working group was formed. City Gas Distribution entities were mandated to provide 100% supply to critical industries, and 95% of natural gas for fertilizers was met.
Control rooms and monitoring committees conducted over 2,100 inspections, leading to penalties for 237 distributors and suspensions for 58 to prevent hoarding and black marketing. Authorities assured citizens of sufficient supplies, urging judicious use of fuel.
