India's electronics manufacturing sector has witnessed substantial growth, with production-linked schemes catalyzing significant investment. The PLI scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing alone has driven approximately Rs 96,000 crore into the domestic mobile production ecosystem.
As of FY 2025-26, overall electronics production increased to Rs 13.11 lakh crore, marking a 15.8 percent year-on-year growth. This surge has propelled smartphones to become India's leading export commodity, surpassing traditional exports like gems and jewellery.
Further initiatives include the PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT Hardware and the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), aiming to strengthen domestic manufacturing, reduce import reliance, and establish India as a global supply chain hub.
The Semicon India Programme has also seen 12 projects approved, with a committed investment of Rs 1.64 lakh crore, and some projects have already commenced commercial production.
Collectively, these schemes are creating extensive direct and indirect employment opportunities, with the mobile manufacturing ecosystem alone supporting around 12 lakh jobs.
