India's Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, has urged over 40 FMCG companies to support a common digital platform for procurement by the nation's 14 million kirana stores. This initiative, DigiDukaan, is part of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and seeks to digitize these retailers for ordering and inventory management.
The platform aims to improve supply-chain efficiency and reduce working capital by allowing neighbourhood stores to discover and order products from multiple brands and distributors via a single interface. As of September 2026, DigiDukaan has connected over 21,000 retailers with more than 450 brands across Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Mumbai.
Discussions with industry leaders focused on digitizing kirana identities, shared logistics, access to formal credit, technology integration, and aligning commercial incentives. Hyderabad has seen over 16,000 retailers join, with high repeat ordering rates. Initial studies suggest that retailers using DigiDukaan hold 40% less inventory, indicating potential working capital savings.
