The highly sought-after Miyazaki mango, often called the 'Egg of the Sun,' has arrived on Indian soil, with a farmer in Bhagalpur district successfully cultivating this rare variety. Ashok Choudhary, recognized as the 'Mango Man' of Bhagalpur, achieved this feat at his farm using advanced grafting technology on seed-grown mango plants.
This globally acclaimed mango boasts a distinctive ruby-red skin and an exceptionally sweet flavor, with prices potentially exceeding Rs 1.5 lakh per kilogram in Japan, where it's considered a luxury gift. Choudhary's cultivation efforts, involving cross-pollination experiments, also aim to introduce other unique mango varieties.
The Miyazaki mango requires a tropical, humid climate and is typically harvested between June and August. It is also celebrated for its rich nutritional profile, packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Choudhary hopes this development will pave the way for high-value fruit cultivation in the state.
