Public Sector Banks Slip in India's Banking Data Quality Index
31 Mar
Summary
- India's bank data quality improved in December 2025 compared to September 2025.
- Public sector banks' scores declined due to completeness and timeliness issues.
- Small finance banks achieved top performance with perfect accuracy and consistency scores.

The quality of regulatory data submitted by India's scheduled commercial banks (SCBs) improved by December 2025, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The overall Supervisory Data Quality Index (sDQI) score increased to 90.9 from 90.7 in the preceding quarter, reflecting better compliance and governance.
While most bank groups saw progress, public sector banks were an exception, with their overall sDQI score dropping to 91 from 91.1. This decline was attributed to specific weaknesses in data completeness and timeliness. Private sector banks maintained a stable sDQI of 90.6, and foreign banks improved slightly to 90.7.
Small finance banks demonstrated strong performance, achieving the highest sDQI of 91.9. They recorded perfect scores in accuracy and consistency, leading their overall improved standing. Aggregate improvements for SCBs were particularly noted in accuracy and consistency metrics, though a dip in completeness and timeliness impacted overall scores.
