India's Auto Sales Soar: Nexon, Dzire Lead Pack

The Indian passenger vehicle market experienced robust growth in January 2026, with strong sales across various segments. The Tata Nexon, encompassing both its internal combustion engine and electric versions, emerged as the best-seller, achieving 23,365 units. This success reflects a broader trend of shifting consumer preferences towards compact SUVs and appealing mainstream models.
Securing the second position, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire sold 19,629 units, powered by its new Z-series petrol engine. The Tata Punch and its EV counterpart collectively sold 19,257 units, with the updated model featuring cosmetic enhancements and new powertrain options. The Hyundai Creta and its electric variant followed with 17,921 units sold, offering diverse engine and battery choices.
Other notable performers in January included the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Swift, Brezza, Baleno, and the combined sales of Mahindra Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic. Rounding out the top 10 was the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, demonstrating a healthy and competitive automotive landscape at the start of 2026.
