IEX Electricity Volumes Surge 17.7% YoY

The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) announced a substantial 17.7% year-on-year increase in its total electricity traded volume for November 2025, excluding tertiary reserve ancillary services, reaching 11,409 MU. This growth was largely driven by a remarkable 40.2% surge in the real-time electricity market, which saw volumes rise to 4,233 MU. The day-ahead market also contributed with a 0.3% year-on-year increase, trading 5,668 MU.
Further bolstering overall volumes, the day ahead contingency and term-ahead market segments experienced an impressive 243.1% rise, trading 693 MU compared to 202 MU in November 2024. This includes various contracts such as high price term-ahead, contingency, daily, weekly, and monthly options up to three months.
In contrast, the IEX green market, encompassing green day-ahead and green term-ahead segments, recorded a slight decrease of 0.3% year-on-year, with 815 MU traded in November 2025. Additionally, trading in renewable energy certificates (RECs) fell by 13.1% year-on-year, with 4.74 lakh RECs traded across two sessions in November 2025.
