Artificial intelligence has fundamentally altered software development, moving the primary challenge from writing code to meticulously reviewing and validating AI-generated output. A recent survey indicates that 85% of DevSecOps professionals now identify code review and validation as the main bottleneck.
In response, IBM has advanced its agentic software development platform, Bob. These updates, unveiled on Thursday, July 9, aim to create a unified foundation for AI collaboration across the software development lifecycle. Bob now better matches AI models to tasks and coordinates execution.
IBM also launched Bobalytics, a new platform providing enhanced visibility into productivity, quality, and costs, enabling enterprises to scale AI with greater control. This strategic expansion highlights AI's growing importance to IBM's growth.
The company reported robust Q1 FY2026 earnings on April 22, exceeding analyst expectations. Revenue climbed 9.5% year-over-year to $15.9 billion, with adjusted EPS rising 19.4% to $1.91. Growth was particularly strong in software, including data and Red Hat, and the Z mainframe segment saw record performance.
Looking forward, IBM anticipates constant-currency revenue growth above 5% for fiscal year 2026. The company projects full-year free cash flow to increase by approximately $1 billion year-over-year, signaling continued financial strength and confidence in its AI-driven strategy.
