Hyundai Creta Dominates, But Market Share Shrinks
5 Jul
Summary
- Hyundai Creta remains unshakeable despite seven new rivals since September 2025.
- Creta offers 63 variants, covering a wide price range from Rs 10.9 lakh to Rs 24.7 lakh.
- Despite Creta's growth, Hyundai India's market share dropped from 14.6% to 12.6%.
Hyundai Creta has solidified its position in the midsize SUV segment, successfully fending off seven new competitors introduced since September 2025. Despite challenges from rivals like the Tata Sierra EV, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Creta consistently outsold them each month.
Analysts attribute Creta's resilience to its immunity from brand fatigue, attributed to regular facelifts and the introduction of new technologies like ADAS. Brand expert Harish Bijoor noted Creta's ability to offer segment-first features, such as panoramic sunroofs and ventilated seats, rewarding consumers.
The extensive "63-variant ecosystem" is a key strategy, encompassing 34 variants of the standard Creta, four variants of the sporty N Line, and 25 variants of the electric model. This wide array spans price points from Rs 10.9 lakh to Rs 24.7 lakh, ensuring Creta remains a consideration for a broad spectrum of car buyers.
However, Creta's overwhelming success has paradoxically impacted Hyundai India's overall market share. While Creta sales have risen year-over-year, the automaker's market share has declined from 14.6% in FY23 to 12.6% in FY26, as a concentrated focus on Creta and Venue has left other models vulnerable to competitors.
