Hull Bridge Gears Up for Complex Repairs
12 Jan
Summary
- Scale Lane Bridge's swing mechanism requires repairs.
- A second phase of investigation is needed before repairs.
- The bridge will close intermittently to pedestrians and cyclists.

Hull City Council has announced that the Scale Lane Bridge will undergo a second phase of crucial investigation work. This preparatory step is essential before a comprehensive repair program can commence for the unique and complex structure.
The inspection in 2024 identified issues with the bridge's swing mechanism. While one stage of investigation was completed in February 2025, a further detailed examination is now required. This second phase is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 19, 2026, and is expected to conclude three weeks later.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo emphasized the necessity of these investigations to guarantee the repair program is effective and provides a lasting solution. During the investigation period, the footbridge will experience temporary closures for pedestrians and cyclists, with a diversion route available over the Millennium footbridge. The council plans to collaborate with local businesses to mitigate any disruptions.
