Hull's Freetown Way Dual Carriageway Return in February
11 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Freetown Way will return to two lanes by February.
- Cycle lanes introduced in 2020 are being modified.
- New cycle-friendly junctions are part of the upgrade.

Hull City Council has announced that work to revert Freetown Way to its dual carriageway status will begin in February. The key city centre route was modified in 2020, reducing it to a single lane per direction for the introduction of cycle lanes, a decision met with criticism.
The forthcoming project aims to restore two lanes of traffic flow on Freetown Way. Simultaneously, it will enhance cycling infrastructure by installing off-road cycle lanes and introducing new cycle-friendly junctions at key intersections, including Blundell's Corner and Witham.
