HPL Prototypes, a historic British engineering firm based in Coventry, has ceased trading and entered administration, resulting in 65 redundancies. The company, which specialized in designing and engineering prototype and concept cars, had a distinguished client list including Bentley, Land Rover, and Rolls-Royce.
The firm's financial distress, exacerbated by wider economic uncertainty, led to the decision by administrators RSM UK to close its operations. Employees are now in the process of submitting claims for unpaid wages and overtime, with some individuals reportedly owed wages dating back six weeks.
RSM UK has confirmed that employees are filing claims with the redundancy payments service for outstanding salaries and overtime. This process is expected to take around three weeks to complete. The administration marks the end of a company with deep roots in British motoring history.
HPL Prototypes' site has a legacy stretching back to the 1920s, having previously served as the base for Triumph's Le Mans racing team in the 1950s and later as Triumph's prototyping division from 1960 to 1980.
