Summary
- The Rawson Bar and Restaurant has ceased trading due to financial difficulties.
- Unsustainable costs and changing customer habits led to the closure.
- The venue occupied a 160-year-old heritage building in The Rocks.

A historic Sydney restaurant, The Rawson Bar and Restaurant, has abruptly ceased trading due to significant financial challenges. Located in The Rocks, the venue occupied a 160-year-old heritage building known for its views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The decision to close was attributed to unsustainable increases in operating costs, including labor, utilities, and supplies.
Changing customer dining habits in the CBD since the pandemic also contributed to the financial difficulties. The liquidator confirmed that the owners made the difficult choice to wind up the business after their management agreement expired. Investigations into the largest creditors are ongoing, but plans are in place to ensure employee wages and superannuation are fulfilled.
The Rawson Bar and Restaurant's closure is another blow to Sydney's hospitality industry, which continues to grapple with post-pandemic struggles. The venue, housed in the historic Rawson Institute for Seamen building, had a long history before its transformation into a hospitality destination in 2011, later rebranding as The Rawson in 2016.
