20 Apr
Summary
- Hindustan Zinc launched Rajasthan's largest electric bus fleet.
- The initiative aims to significantly cut CO₂e emissions.
- This marks a step toward the company's 2050 Net Zero ambition.

Hindustan Zinc Limited introduced Rajasthan's inaugural and most extensive electric bus fleet at its Zinc Smelter Debari unit in Udaipur. This deployment is the initial phase of a larger plan to integrate 41 electric buses throughout its Rajasthan operations, in collaboration with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt. Ltd.
The primary objective of this green initiative is to curtail emissions stemming from employee transportation and address Scope 3 emissions. Replacing conventional diesel buses is projected to reduce over 11,000 tonnes of CO₂e throughout the contract duration. This transition is a key step in Hindustan Zinc's broader strategy to decarbonize its value chain and achieve its Net Zero ambition by 2050, or sooner.
The company's commitment extends to ongoing investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable mobility. Renewable energy currently accounts for nearly 18% of its total power consumption. Furthermore, a 530 MW round-the-clock renewable energy supply agreement is in place, expected to cover over 70% of its energy needs, with initial supply commencing in the last financial year.
Hindustan Zinc's sustainability efforts have garnered recognition, including being named the world's most sustainable metals and mining company for the third consecutive year by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2025. These actions align with its commitments to the Science Based Targets initiative and the International Council on Mining and Metals.
