6 Oct
Summary
- Loan book surged 15.3% year-on-year to Rs 33.07 lakh crore by September 2026.
- HDFC Bank raised $11.5 billion from overseas FCNR(B) deposits.
- Deposits grew 18.8% year-on-year to Rs 33.27 lakh crore.
HDFC Bank's loan book expanded by a significant 15.3% year-on-year, reaching Rs 33.07 lakh crore by the end of the September 2026 quarter. This impressive growth occurred despite the traditional slack season for credit during the monsoon period, which was notably deficient across India this year.
The bank bolstered its finances by raising approximately $11.5 billion (Rs 1.10 lakh crore) from FCNR(B) deposits overseas. A portion of these funds, $5.7 billion (Rs 54,700 crore), was extended as loans, directly contributing to the strong quarterly loan growth.
Overall deposits at HDFC Bank grew by 18.8% year-on-year to Rs 33.27 lakh crore in the same quarter. Time deposits, primarily fixed deposits, saw a substantial increase of 22.8% year-on-year, reaching Rs 22.75 lakh crore.
The bank's credit-to-deposit ratio stood at approximately 99.4% by the end of the September 2026 quarter. This metric, while high, reflects the bank's aggressive lending strategy, which has historically been a key focus for investors.
