HCI Group Launches Digital Reinsurance Tokens
28 Jun
Summary
- HCI Group piloted digital tokenized reinsurance securities this month.
- Tokens offer accredited investors access to reinsurance participations.
- This move diversifies investment in catastrophe exposure.

Earlier this month, HCI Group, Inc. launched a pilot program for three digital tokenized reinsurance securities via SurancePlus. This innovative approach grants accredited investors access to financial instruments that mirror Fortex Reinsurance SPC Ltd.'s participation in HCI's 2026-2027 catastrophe excess-of-loss programs. Crucially, this does not alter HCI's underlying reinsurance structure.
The newly introduced tokens feature distinct risk-return profiles and shorter, annual treaty-aligned horizons. With a minimum investment of US$5,000, these tokens offer qualified investors a novel method to tailor their catastrophe exposure. This initiative highlights HCI's ongoing experimentation with digital securities as part of its broader insurance-linked risk transfer strategy.
This development aligns with HCI's investment narrative, which emphasizes technology-enabled underwriting and disciplined catastrophe risk management. Despite concentrated Florida exposure and reinsurance cost pressures, the tokenized reinsurance pilot does not significantly change near-term earnings catalysts or key risks. Notably, HCI was also added to the Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) List on June 26, 2026, drawing fresh attention to its operations and technological advancements.
Analysts project a decline in earnings over the next few years, with forecasts suggesting US$1.1 billion in revenue and US$197.3 million in earnings by 2029. This implies a 4.9% yearly revenue growth but a decrease in earnings from the current US$290.5 million. Despite potential earnings shifts, HCI's innovation in capital access is a key focus for investors.
