HBO Max Hikes Prices Amid Streaming Wars

As of October 21, 2025, the HBO Max streaming service has announced significant price increases across all of its subscription plans. The Basic with ads plan is now $10.99 per month, up $1 from the previous price. The Standard plan has increased by $1.50, now costing $18.49 per month. The Premium plan has seen the largest hike, going up $2 to $22.99 per month.
These price changes come as the streaming landscape becomes increasingly saturated with options for consumers. Just last month, Disney raised the prices of its Disney+ plans and bundles. In August, Apple hiked the cost of its Apple TV service by 30%. Earlier this year, Netflix also increased its subscription fees.
According to WBD CEO David Zaslav, the price increases are justified by the high-quality content and production values offered by HBO Max. Zaslav stated that the company believes its services are "way underpriced" and that the quality across its motion picture, TV, and streaming divisions gives it the opportunity to raise prices.
As of June 30, 2025, WBD reported having 125.7 million paying subscribers across all of its streaming services, including HBO Max and its legacy linear HBO subscribers.
