Hasbro Gaming Chief Departs Amidst Financial Turnaround
15 Aug
Summary
- Wizards of the Coast division sales grew 27% in Q2.
- Magic: The Gathering generated $500 million in quarterly revenue.
- President John Hight leaves Sep. 1 after revitalizing Hasbro.

Hasbro's Wizards of the Coast division, renowned for Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, reported a significant 27% increase in sales during the second quarter of 2026, reaching $1.1 billion in total company sales. Magic: The Gathering was a major contributor, generating $500 million in quarterly revenue alone with a 32% growth rate.
Despite this strong financial performance, John Hight, the President of Wizards of the Coast who was instrumental in transforming Hasbro's profitability, will step down from his role effective September 1, 2026. He will remain with Hasbro as an advisor until September 2, 2027. Hight's leadership coincided with a shift from a net loss of $6.10 per share to a net profit of $1.12 per share in Q2 2026.
Industry speculation suggests Hight's departure may be linked to the cancellation of several video games planned for release after 2028, which resulted in a $56 million impairment charge. This move has raised concerns about the future trajectory of Hasbro's gaming successes under new leadership.
Under Hight's guidance since July 2024, following a 12-year period at Blizzard Entertainment, Hasbro experienced a remarkable fiscal improvement. The company's sales, which had previously declined by 21%, began growing again, with a nearly 14% increase in 2025 sales over 2024, largely driven by the Wizards of the Coast division. Over the past twelve months, Hasbro has achieved nearly $5 billion in sales and over $1.2 billion in positive free cash flow.
