Nearly 17,000 Harleys Recalled for Dangerous Brake Issue
20 Apr
Summary
- Nearly 17,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles recalled due to rear brake line issue.
- Brake line contact with module can tear, causing fluid leaks and reduced braking.
- Dealers will replace parts free of charge; owners notified starting May 18.

Nearly 17,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles are subject to a recall impacting model years 2025 and 2026. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that a rear brake line issue poses an increased crash risk.
The problem arises from insufficient space between the rear brake line and the body control module, a consequence of a new electrical system and narrower frame. This contact can cause the brake line to tear over time, leading to brake fluid leaks and impaired rear braking performance.
Specific affected models include the FXLRST, FXBB, FLHC, and FXLRS, with production dates between October 2024 and March 2026. Harley-Davidson initiated an investigation after a service report detailed inoperable brakes on a 2025 FXLRST. While no crashes or injuries have been reported, dealers will replace the body control module caddy and inspect the brake line at no cost to owners.
Owner notification letters are anticipated to be dispatched starting May 18. Those with concerns can seek further information from the NHTSA website or by contacting Harley-Davidson customer service.
