23 Feb
Summary
- HAL confirms no Tejas fighter jet crash occurred recently.
- A minor technical incident on the ground prompted investigation.
- Tejas aircraft boasts one of the world's best safety records.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) has officially refuted claims of a crash involving its Light Combat Aircraft Tejas. The aerospace giant stated that a recent incident was a minor technical issue that occurred while the aircraft was on the ground, clarifying that no crash took place. This explanation comes after reports suggested significant damage to a Tejas aircraft due to a suspected brake failure during a landing.
HAL reiterated that the Tejas fighter jet holds an excellent safety record, among the best globally for contemporary fighter aircraft. The company is conducting a thorough analysis of the incident as per standard procedures and is working with the Indian Air Force to resolve the matter quickly. The clarification follows a report alleging the aircraft overshot the runway after a training sortie.
Reports indicated that the Indian Air Force had grounded its fleet of approximately 30 Tejas jets for checks following the event. This incident marks the third involving a Tejas aircraft in recent years, with previous occurrences reported in March 2024 and November 2025. The stock value of HAL saw a decline of 3.56% on Monday.
