Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) announced plans to establish a final assembly line for Russia's SJ100 regional passenger aircraft at its Nashik facility. This initiative, a collaboration with Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, is expected to be operational within three years.
While the assembly line is under development, HAL will lease 20 SJ100 aircraft in flyaway condition. Arrangements for these leases are being structured through leasing companies at GIFT City, with an initial lease of 10 aircraft planned over the next year.
This expansion into civil aviation is a key part of HAL's diversification strategy. The company aims for civil aviation to contribute approximately 25% of its total turnover over the next ten years, a significant shift from its current defense-focused revenue.
