Green Projects Surge: China Leads Global Funding Boom
8 Jun
Summary
- Low-carbon industrial project funding more than doubled year-on-year.
- Nineteen projects secured $43 billion, with most in China.
- Fossil fuel dependence highlighted as a risk during price shocks.

The number of low-carbon industrial projects receiving funding has more than doubled in the past six months, reaching 19 projects valued at $43 billion. China has emerged as the leader, with 13 of these projects securing final investment decisions from November to April, spanning sectors from methanol to aluminum.
This significant increase, compared to eight projects in the same prior period, occurred as global tensions, including conflicts involving Iran, drove up fossil fuel prices. This volatility highlights the economic risks associated with fossil fuel dependence.
The Mission Possible Partnership, a non-profit supporting low-emission industries, noted that 969 low-carbon industrial projects are currently in the pipeline globally. China leads in announced projects with 170, followed by "sunbelt" countries (318), Europe (211), and the United States (72).
While the U.S. has a substantial pipeline of projects, its relative momentum has decreased, with announced projects declining by 20 over the last 12 months. This trend underscores the dynamic nature of the global transition to greener industries.
