Google has settled a class-action lawsuit filed in 2022 by Black employees alleging systemic racial discrimination. The lawsuit claimed the tech giant engaged in unfair treatment regarding hiring, pay, and career advancement for its Black workforce.
Plaintiffs alleged that Google perpetuated harmful racial stereotypes, viewing Black candidates as not "Googly enough." They further claimed Black candidates were "hazed" and placed in lower-paying roles with less potential.
The settlement, reached as of Friday, does not involve an admission of liability by Google. However, it includes commitments to pay equity analyses, pay transparency measures, and limitations on mandatory arbitration until at least August 2026.
