Gold Medal Environmental is embarking on a new era of aggressive growth, pivoting from a period of strategic consolidation and operational improvements. The company, which employs over 600 people and operates a fleet of approximately 365 vehicles, generates nearly $200 million in annual revenue across the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. This strategic shift is spearheaded by new CEO John Doyen, who succeeded Darren Gruendel, now serving as executive chairman.
The company has recently completed significant acquisitions to fuel its expansion. In April, Gold Medal acquired an unnamed company in the Frederick, Maryland area, extending its service reach from Baltimore to parts of Virginia. This followed the early 2024 purchase of Virginia-based Patriot Disposal, a company with an estimated $40 million in annualized revenue and a fleet of about 70 trucks. Gold Medal plans to rebrand under the Patriot name, citing its strong brand and culture. These growth initiatives are supported by private equity firm Kinderhook Industries, which established the Gold Medal Environmental platform in 2018.
New executive leadership is also in place to support this growth trajectory. Tyler Kraft has joined as COO, bringing experience from Star Waste Systems and Republic Services. Marc Scott has been appointed chief revenue and growth officer, with previous roles at Rehrig Pacific and Republic Services. This revitalized executive team is poised to guide Gold Medal Environmental through its next phase of expansion and market development.
