Villagers Block Vedanta Ore Trucks Over Unmet Demands
13 Jan
Summary
- Villagers blocked ore trucks protesting Vedanta's unmet demands.
- Demands include desilting farms choked by mining sludge.
- A village ambulance is also among the long-pending requests.

Villagers in Sarmanas-Piligao, Goa, have resorted to blocking ore transportation from Vedanta's mining site, expressing frustration over unaddressed grievances. The protest, which occurred on Tuesday, saw residents halting trucks in a bid to compel the mining company to meet their long-standing demands. These include critical issues such as the desilting of farms severely impacted by mining sludge and the provision of a much-needed ambulance for the village.
Despite several rounds of discussions involving villagers, government officials, and Vedanta representatives over the past two years, a concrete resolution has not yet been achieved. The deputy collector and other local officials were present at the blockade, urging the villagers to disperse, but their pleas went unheeded as the protest continued. Vedanta officials engaged with the deputy collector, outlining measures they claim are being implemented.
