Go Digit General Insurance Ltd announced on March 7, 2026, that it received an order from the Office of the Commissioner of GST & Central Excise, Chennai South Commissionerate. The order confirms a Goods and Services Tax (GST) demand totaling ₹154.80 crore, along with a penalty of ₹15.48 crore and applicable interest.
The aforementioned demand and penalty are related to the period spanning from July 2017 to March 2022. This order follows a re-adjudication process after the Bombay High Court had previously set aside an earlier demand of ₹170.29 crore. The core issue involves alleged non-payment of GST on co-insurance premiums received as a follower and on reinsurance commissions deducted.
Go Digit has stated that this is an industry-wide issue and is currently evaluating legal advice. The company intends to pursue an appeal or other appropriate legal recourse, such as filing a writ petition. At present, Go Digit asserts that the order has no material impact on its operations. The insurer's shares closed at ₹334.35 on the BSE, marking a 3.23% increase.
