GM Ends Silverado HD Truck Line
17 May
Summary
- GM is ceasing production of Silverado medium-duty trucks.
- The move ends a partnership with International Trucks.
- Chevrolet exits the medium-duty segment this year.

General Motors is discontinuing its Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD medium-duty truck line later this year. This strategic shift signifies Chevrolet's departure from a segment crucial for towing, utility fleets, and heavy hauling operations. The production of these trucks was closely linked to International Trucks' Springfield, Ohio facility, which was sold earlier this year, removing the manufacturing base for the Silverado medium-duty lineup.
Sales performance contributed to this decision, with Chevrolet selling just over 1,200 medium-duty trucks in the first quarter of 2026. This volume was substantially less than that of rivals such as Ford's F-650 and F-750 models. Consequently, GM has opted not to extend the program, which featured the Duramax 6.6-liter diesel V8 and Allison transmission. Chevrolet will continue to serve the commercial truck market through its Isuzu-partnered Low Cab Forward lineup.
