German Industry Orders Surge: Tech Sector Leads Growth

In the first half of 2026, Germany's electrical and digital industry saw a notable 9.5% increase in incoming orders, according to the ZVEI sector association. This surge in demand has bolstered production, which grew by 0.7% in the same period, placing the sector's annual growth target of 2% within reach. Business sentiment is also improving, with positive assessments of the current economic situation and future expectations.

Domestic orders, rising by 9.7% in the first six months, contributed significantly to the overall growth. The month of June proved particularly strong, with a 13.3% jump in total orders, driven almost entirely by a substantial 60.7% year-on-year increase in domestic orders. This boost was largely attributed to significant orders within the information and communications technology segment.

Despite this positive trend, the industry, which employs approximately 865,000 people, is increasingly concerned about potential material shortages and geopolitical developments, particularly those concerning the Gulf region and the conflict with Iran. These external factors cast a shadow over the otherwise optimistic outlook for the sector.
