Ganga Expressway Tolls Begin: New Road Trip Costs Revealed

As of May 17, 2026, tolls are now being collected on the Ganga Expressway, a 594-km corridor connecting Meerut and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. This route, inaugurated recently, is no longer toll-free for commuters. A "closed toll system" is in effect, meaning travelers are charged based on their entry and exit points, calculating fares for the exact distance covered.

Vehicle categories have specific toll rates per kilometer. Cars, jeeps, and vans will be charged ₹2.55 per km, while buses and trucks face rates up to ₹8.20 per km. A full journey for a car from Meerut to Prayagraj is estimated to cost around ₹1,500 to ₹1,515. This infrastructure aims to significantly reduce travel time between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, cutting it to about six to seven hours.

Beyond connectivity, the Ganga Expressway is being developed as a modern road-trip destination. It features multiple rest areas, food plazas, and various amenities designed to enhance the travel experience. Popular food stops are highlighted along the route, including culinary recommendations in cities like Meerut, Hapur, Shahjahanpur, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Prayagraj, making it an attractive route for food enthusiasts.

Toll payments are facilitated by FASTag for faster, contactless transactions. The expressway operates with main toll plazas and numerous entry and exit ramps, supporting the distance-based toll calculation.
