Caroline Davey, the trust's education and outreach manager, explained that the rising cost of petrol and diesel, up significantly since late February, is straining their funds. She noted that the grants have historically enabled over 25,000 pupils to experience their local heritage.
Another charity, South West Blood Bikes, which delivers medical supplies for the NHS free of charge using unpaid volunteers, is also grappling with escalating fuel costs. Charity chair Steve Dower indicated that the charity's fuel bill could increase by thousands of pounds, posing a significant risk to its sustainability and ability to continue its free services for the NHS.
