21 Oct
Summary
- FSSAI issued notices to Nestle and Zydus for misleading product advertisements.
- Companies must provide scientific proof for health and growth claims.
- Specific products like Lactogen Pro and Complan are under review.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has recently issued notices to two prominent companies, Nestle India and Zydus Wellness, demanding scientific validation for their product advertisements. These notices address concerns over alleged misleading claims made in the marketing of several food products.
Nestle India received a notice concerning its products 'Lactogen Pro 1 Powder' and 'Nan Excella Pro Stage 1'. The FSSAI questioned claims related to whey protein being easy to digest and the immune system benefits of 5 HMOs. The regulator flagged that such claims could imply disease prevention, which is restricted under applicable regulations.
Similarly, Zydus Wellness was issued a notice regarding its product Complan. The FSSAI cited violations of advertising regulations for claims such as '2X Faster Growth', 'Supports Concentration and Memory', and 'Pro Immunity+ 34 Vital Nutrients'. The company must now provide scientific justification for these assertions to the FSSAI.
