8 Sep
Summary
- French TV content exports fell 21.6% to €164.3 million in 2025.
- Fiction remained the top export genre, but saw a 27% decline.
- Animation suffered a massive 30.3% drop, reaching an all-time low.
French audiovisual program exports saw a sharp 21.6% decrease in 2025, totaling €164.3 million and marking a decade low. This decline contrasts with a 3% rise in 2024. The current economic climate and market uncertainties have impacted international sales significantly.
Fiction maintained its top position, accounting for 33.4% of exports. However, it experienced a notable 27% year-on-year drop. Documentary exports saw a more moderate decline of 2.7%, reaching €43.1 million, and overtook animation in market share.
Animation, once a strong performer, plummeted to an all-time low of 19.6% with a 30.3% drop to €32.2 million. This downturn is partly attributed to the liquidation of key animation companies and a general slowdown in international demand.
Sales are increasingly concentrated on established intellectual property and standardized offerings. Documentaries proved more resilient, with European broadcasters remaining major buyers. However, a global shift towards local content preferences presents new export barriers.
