Los Angeles County is providing over 280 free, health-code-compliant food vending carts to eligible sidewalk vendors through a new $2.8 million program. The initiative, a collaboration with the City of Los Angeles, aims to support entrepreneurs and foster economic inclusion.
The Sidewalk Vending Cart Program addresses new requirements established by an ordinance that took effect in August 2024. These regulations mandate permits and compliance with public health and safety standards, which introduced new costs for vendors.
To qualify, vendors must be 18 or older, reside in LA County, earn less than $75,000 annually from vending, and operate within unincorporated LA County or the City of LA. Applications are now open and reviewed monthly.
