Framework Cites Memory Costs, Raises DIY Laptop Prices 50%
12 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Framework is increasing DDR5 memory prices by 50% for DIY laptops.
- This price increase is below open market rates, claims Framework.
- New return policy requires memory to be sent back with laptops.

Framework has announced a significant 50% price increase for DDR5 memory included in its Laptop DIY Edition orders, citing escalating memory costs as the primary driver. Despite this hike, Framework asserts that the new prices remain competitive and below current open market rates, emphasizing its commitment to transparency about pricing changes.
To address concerns about scalping and preserve inventory, Framework has also revised its return policy. Customers must now return the memory module along with the laptop to process a return, a measure intended to prevent resellers from profiting from shortages. Previously, DDR RAM was delisted as a standalone product for similar reasons.
The company anticipates continued market volatility and expects further price adjustments for memory modules and systems containing them. Framework states these increases are solely to cover supplier costs and not to boost profit margins, drawing a contrast with other companies they believe are exploiting the situation.
